Security agreement renewed: 500 new specialists for Poste, while the Postal Police will be able to count on forensic training provided by the National Cybersecurity Agency

When, in 2018, the Postal Police installed the first garrisons in Poste Italiane's data centers, the move was seen by many as a symbolic gesture. Seven years and dozens of ransomware attacks later, that garrison has become the linchpin of an alliance that is being renewed today at the Viminale. Sitting at the signing table are the Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, the Chief of Police Vittorio Pisani and the CEO Matteo Del Fante, alongside the Director General Giuseppe Lasco.

The protocol does not promise fireworks: no nine-figure numbers or Hollywood inaugurations. Instead, it focuses on daily practices: exchange of indicators of compromise, mixed teams operating remotely, a "gym" where technicians and investigators simulate real scenarios. The leaked numbers speak of 500 new specialists for Poste, while Postale will be able to count on forensic training provided by the National Cybersecurity Agency.

In the background is the Polis Project, funded by the PNRR, which will transform seven thousand offices in small municipalities into digital counters for registry offices, INPS and healthcare. Protecting them means protecting daily life: here, malware is equivalent to a queue that moves from the counter to the screen. According to Clusit, in 2024, attacks on public administration increased by 66%; many municipalities do not have a CISO and the ACN Agency is still hiring.

Today's agreement, therefore, is presented less as a proclamation and more as a mutual supervision pact. It does not solve the problem of the "single point of failure": when a single operator holds SPID, PagoPA and registry records, redundancy must become political. But at least it tries to coordinate defenses before the emergency and not after. The signature does not close the construction site of national cybersecurity: it opens a door, hoping that it remains well-armored.

For Poste, the agreement is a test: the trust of the counter is valid behind the firewall. For Postale, it is the transition from investigation to defense in real time.
